Construction to close I-49 lanes in Lowell

Construction work will require lane closures and possibly short delays on Interstate 49 in Lowell all week during the overnight hours, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Crews are replacing the Arkansas 264, W. Monroe Ave., bridge over I-49. Structural beams as well as safety platforms will be installed spanning the Interstate. The work will require diverting I-49 traffic around the bridge site during overhead work to protect motorists.

The overnight traffic diversions will continue through Friday morning, weather permitting. The work will only occur between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. During the work, I-49 southbound and then northbound traffic will be detoured to the Exit 78 ramps to divert traffic around the overpass.

APAC-Central, Inc. of Fayetteville, Arkansas was awarded the contract at $6.1. The project is estimated to be complete by summer 2016.

Drivers should exercise caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones. Additional travel information can be found at IDriveArkansas.com or ArkansasHighways.com. You can also follow the highway department on Twitter @AHTD.
