Authorities find body of missing Missouri swimmer

MARSHALL — Arkansas authorities on Monday morning found the body of a Missouri man who went missing in the Buffalo National River last week.

Searchers found the body of Curtis Miller, 22, about 10:40 a.m. on a sand bar almost two miles downstream from Grinder's Ferry, Buffalo National River spokesman Caven Clark said in a news release.

An Arkansas Game and Fish Commission spokesman said divers continued to comb the river Monday for the 22-year-old from Independence, Mo. The Searcy County sheriff's office previously said the swimmer showed signs of distress before disappearing underwater Thursday about 7:45 p.m. near Marshall.

The spokesman said water levels are continuing to recede, making the search easier for divers. The National Park Service said the river had been running high, fast and with debris following downpours from Tropical Depression Bill.

Searches on Friday and Saturday were limited to sonar and surface operations "due to high water and zero visibility," Clark said.
