Boat advisory still in effect for river

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminded boaters Friday that a small-craft advisory for the Arkansas River is still in place, even as river flows have decreased somewhat with recent flooding receding.

During high flows, dikes that are normally visible are submerged, and strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft, the Corps said in a news release.

Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam near Fort Smith are about 150,000 cubic feet per second, as are flows at Ormond Lock and Dam at Morrilton.

Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock, at Sanders Lock and Dam near Pine Bluff and at Mills Dam at Arkansas Post are about 160,000 cubic feet per second.

Small-craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second.
