Bethel Heights man accused of raping 12-year-old girl

BENTONVILLE -- A Bethel Heights man was arrested Tuesday in connection with the rape of a 12-year-old girl.

David Allen Cannaday, 46, was being held in the Benton County Jail on Thursday with no bond set. He was booked into jail at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Miguel Cordova, a detective with the Bethel Heights Police Department, began to investigate the case after he received information from a Springdale school resource officer, according to a probable cause affidavit. The girl reported being sexually abused by Cannaday to a school counselor, according to court documents.

The girl was interviewed at the Children's Advocacy Center of Benton County where she gave details of the abuse, according to court documents.

Prosecutors haven't filed a formal rape charge against Cannaday. His arraignment is scheduled for 8 a.m. July 20 in Circuit Judge Robin Green's court.
