Work to shut I-49, Punkin Hollow lanes in Benton County

Road work on Interstate 49 and excavation ahead of the planned bridge construction for the Bella Vista Bypass will require lane closures in Benton County starting Friday, state highway officials said Thursday.

Beginning Friday, excavation work in conjunction with Bella Vista Bypass work will require a lane closure on Punkin Hollow Road in Benton County, narrowing traffic to one lane between Short Road and Miller Church Road between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays for about a week, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said. Two-lane traffic will be reestablished during the hours crews aren’t working, officials said.

Starting Sunday night, crews will be clearing drains and sweeping and removing debris on I-49 in each direction, extending south from Central Avenue in Bentonville to the Benton-Washington County line and then returning north from Exit 93 in Bella Vista to Central Avenue in Bentonville, the Highway Department said.

The lane closures, which will run from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday and Monday nights, will reduce traffic to one lane within the work zones.
