• The Arkansas State Board of Nursing approved on Wednesday afternoon a plan for Har-Ber School of Nursing students to complete their studies should a lack of funding force the Springdale school to close after December. The full board's approval followed the recommendation of the board's education committee, which convened a special meeting to discuss the plan Wednesday morning. On April 25, Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville informed the nursing school that it would pull its funding -- about half of the school's operating budget -- after Dec. 31. Washington Regional officials have said they were satisfied with the quality and quantity of Har-Ber graduates. But the hospital has decided to divert its investments to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and Northwest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville because those schools could better accommodate growth.
