Missions put away Travs

The San Antonio Missions raced to a 6-1 lead and watched the Arkansas Travelers close to 6-5 before pulling away for a 9-5 victory Thursday night in front of an announced crowd of 4,749 at Wolff Municipal Stadium in San Antonio.

With the score tied 1-1, San Antonio scored two runs in the third inning. Albreth Martinez's groundout scored Luis Domoromo, who reached on a fielding error by Travs second baseman Drew Maggi. Trea Turner followed with a groundout to score Travis Janikowski, who earlier doubled, making the score 3-1.

The Missions pushed the margin to 6-1 in the fourth. Duanel Jones, who walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third on Jason Hagerty's single, scored on a wild pitch by Travs starter Harrison Cooney. After Domoromo grounded out and Janikowski singled to left-center field, Hagerty scored on Martinez's groundout. Janikowski scored on Trea Turner's single to left-center field.

The Travs closed to 6-3 in the fifth when Cal Towey hit a two-run home run to right field off Casey Kelly.

The Travelers pulled to 6-5 in the sixth. D'Arby Myers' single to left-center field scored Maggi, who walked to lead off the inning. After Johnson struck out and Eric Stamets walked to load the bases, Towey drew a base on balls to score Jared Mitchell, who doubled earlier.

The Missions responded with three runs in the seventh. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Austin Adams came on to replace Austin Wood. Adams gave up an RBI single to Diego Goris. A wild pitch by Adams allowed Turner to score. After Hunter Renfroe was thrown out at the plate on a fielder's choice, Hagerty's sacrifice fly scored Goris to make it 9-5.

Both teams had 10 hits with the Travelers stranding 10 runners and batting 3 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

Raywilly Gomez led the Travelers by going 2 for 5 and scoring one run. Myers went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Goris went 3 for 4 with a run and an RBI to lead the Missions.

Cooney (0-1) took the loss, allowing 6 runs -- 4 earned -- in 4 innings with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Adam Climber (2-1) picked up the victory in relief, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hit with 2 strikeouts.

NATURALS 3, HOOKS 1

Zane Evans' two-run home run in the ninth inning lifted Northwest Arkansas to a victory over Corpus Christi on Thursday night in front of an announced crowd of 4,968 at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Jorge Bonifacio led off the ninth with a double for the Naturals. After Hunter Dozier struck out swinging, Evans took an 0-2 delivery from Michael Feliz over the left-field wall to break the 1-1 tie.

The Hooks had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth when Chan Moon hit a pinch-hit single to right off Malcolm Culver. After Tony Kemp walked, he and Moon moved to second and third on a wild pitch. But Teoscar Hernandez lined to shortstop Raul Mondesi, Moon was thrown out at third on a fielder's choice and Brandon Meredith struck out swinging to end the game.

Daniel Stumpf (3-1) pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief to get the victory ,while Culver got the save. Feliz (0-1) took the loss for the Hooks.
