Warnings remained in effect along rivers Arkansas as heavy rain in recent weeks contributed to flood levels that ranged from minor to major in parts of the state.

The National Weather Service said some areas along the Arkansas River would see even higher levels than they experienced last month.

Major flooding, the highest category, was reported Monday afternoon on the Arkansas River at Van Buren, Ozark Lock and Dam and Pine Bluff as well as the Red River north of Texarkana.

In the Pine Bluff area, where some residents were forced from their homes by the rising waters, the river had reached 45.7 feet by noon Monday. It was expected to rise to 46 feet Wednesday before falling into the minor flooding category by Friday.

The river was forecast to reach major flood stage at Morrilton Monday and at Toad Suck Lock and Dam on Tuesday.

The Ozark Lock and Dam and Van Buren had both already crested and were falling by Monday afternoon.

The Arkansas River in Little Rock was forecast to rise to 23 feet overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, just reaching the lower precipice of minor flooding stage.

Flood warnings were in effect along parts of the Arkansas River and several others, including parts of the White River, the Cache River, the Black River, the Ouachita River and the Red River.
