UA women set nonconference schedule

Basketball

Arkansas’ women’s basketball team will play four nonconference games against teams that were in the NCAA Tournament last season: Texas, Rutgers, Oregon State and South Dakota State. All four games will be away from home.

The Razorbacks play at South Dakota State on Nov. 18, play Oregon in Puerto Rico in the San Juan Shootout on Nov. 28, play at Rutgers on Dec. 6 and play Texas in Oklahoma City in the SEC-Big 12 Shootout on Dec. 20.

“We’ve put together a nonconference schedule that will test us and show both our strengths and weaknesses,” Arkansas Coach Jimmy Dykes said in a news release. “This is exactly the kind of schedule I need to prepare for the always-tough SEC schedule in January.”

Arkansas plays an exhibition game against Missouri Southern on Nov. 8, then opens the regular season against Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 13 at Walton Arena.

ASU men release schedule

The Arkansas State men’s basketball will endure a seven-day, three-game road trip in the season’s first month and play host to five nonconference home games in Coach John Brady’s eighth season as coach.

The Red Wolves, who released their nonconference schedule Thursday, will open the season Nov. 9 with an exhibition game against Henderson State. They’ll open the regular season Nov. 13 at Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and play their first home game Nov. 16 against Lyon College.

ASU’s toughest stretch begins in the final week of November, when it plays at Oregon on Nov. 25, at Baylor on Nov. 27 and at Missouri on Dec. 1. Oregon and Baylor reached the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Red Wolves return home to play North Dakota State on Dec. 4 and follow that with home games against Arkansas-Monticello (Dec. 12) and Central Arkansas (Dec. 22). They also host Jackson State on Nov. 22.

ASU’s other nonconference road games come at Savannah State (Nov. 18) and Tennessee-Martin (Dec. 18).

“Our team learned a great deal about itself last season, and opposed to having 12 new players, we now have a team of 12 experienced guys,” Brady said. “This team realizes what it needs to accomplish his year and is working extremely hard to reach that goal.”

The Red Wolves went 11-18 overall and 6-14 in the Sun Belt last season.
