State fiddle contest set for Aug. 20-22

MOUNTAIN VIEW — The sound of fiddle music will echo through the Ozarks next month during the annual Arkansas State Fiddle Championship.

The festival of traditional Ozark Mountain music is scheduled Aug. 20-22 at the Ozark Folk Center State Park in Mountain View.

The three-day event includes a workshop with Betse Ellis as well as Old Time and Contemporary fiddle contests. The contests will include youth, junior, senior and open categories. Admission is free.

Music Director Daren Dortin said organizers have also planned fiddle performances from Violet Hensley, Billy Mathews and the Cobb Brothers.

The mission of the Ozark Folk Center State Park is to perpetuate, present and promote the Ozark way of life in an educational and enjoyable manner through craft demonstrations, musical programs, the Heritage Herb Garden and other events.
