FAYETTEVILLE -- Seventy-five incoming freshmen will receive awards of $70,000 over four years as recipients of an Honors College Fellowship at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
The money largely covers the cost of tuition, fees, registration, books, room and board. The Honors College students can supplement those funds with other scholarships and grants, including study abroad and research grants.
The 14th class of fellows includes 26 National Merit scholars. Within the group, 18 are from outside Arkansas.
To qualify for consideration, applicants must score at least a 32 on the ACT college entrance exam and have at least a 3.8 GPA, according to the university. This year, the group was chosen from more than 670 applicants.
A portion of the $300 million gift to UA from the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation in 2002 pays for the fellowships.
