State sites up for register nods

The state Review Board of the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will consider several Arkansas properties -- including four in Pulaski County -- for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.

The board is set to meet at 10 a.m. Aug. 5 in Room 170 at 323 Center St. in Little Rock.

The Pulaski County properties are:

• The Jacksonville Commercial Historic District on First Street between Mulberry and West Hickory streets in Jacksonville. The district features buildings erected between 1925 and 1962.

• The Sam Strauss Jr. House at 4 Sunset Drive in Cammack Village, a 1963-64 midcentury, modern-style residence.

• The Dan Stowers Office Building at 1516 W. Third St. in Little Rock, a 1961 International-style building.

• The Matthews-Story House at 8115 Ascension Road in Little Rock, a 1925 Craftsman-style airplane bungalow.

Other properties being considered for nomination are:

• The Highway 79 Bridge Boundary Increase at Clarendon in Monroe County.

• The South Howard Street Historic District at Morrilton in Conway County.

• The Lawrence County Courthouse at Walnut Ridge in Lawrence County.

• Servetus W. Ogan House at Wynne in Cross County.

• Blytheville Air Force Base Capeheart Housing Historic District at Blytheville in Mississippi County.

The board also will consider the Edgar Wright Farmstead at Judsonia in White County for listing on the Arkansas Register of Historic Places. The Arkansas register recognizes historically noteworthy places that are not eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
