Girl Power

Hot group of the moment plays Rogers on ‘Reflection’ tour

The female answer to One Direction, the ladies of Fifth Harmony are steadily establishing themselves as the energetic, female-empowering, culturally relevant group to watch right now. The five girls were brought together in 2012 by producer Simon Cowell on the second season of "The X Factor" after all auditioning as solo acts. Following the release of their full-length album, "Reflection" earlier this year, group members Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Normani Hamilton, Dinah Hansen and Lauren Jauregui are in the middle of their first major headlining tour, "Reflection: The Summer Tour," and are excited to share new material with fans.

"We're talking about real things that really matter to us on this album," Hamilton says by phone during a recent interview. "It's been a couple years [since 'Better Together'] and I think you can really hear how our voices have matured in our music."

"Better Together," Fifth Harmony's debut EP, peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2013 and produced singles "Miss Movin' On," and "Me & My Girls," perfect breezy anthems for teen girls and their BFFs everywhere.

With "Reflection," the group plays to the strengths of all five performers and gives fans more diversity as they touch on R&B, dance-pop, EDM and '90s throwback styles. Their message of girl power is explicit on this album with tracks like "Worth It," "Reflection" and "BO$$," all of which fans can certainly expect to hear at tonight's show at the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion in Rogers.

Joining the ladies of 5H, making for a night of all-female entertainment, are newcomer Bea Miller, former Disney channel darling Debby Ryan and Natalie La Rose of the popular radio hit "Somebody."

"We just really hope our fans in Arkansas really enjoy the show," Hamilton says. "We've got some incredible opening acts that each add a really incredible element to the show, so it will definitely be a lot of fun!"

Tonight's concert is Fifth Harmony's first performance in Arkansas, so fans can expect the full rundown of their most popular songs. The show will begin and end with some of the most upbeat, radio-friendly tracks, with an acoustic set folded in the middle to showcase the girls' harmonies in their more vulnerable songs.

The fun of the girls' dance-heavy, high-energy show definitely carries over to down time, Hamilton says. Treating each other and the crew like one big family, Hamilton says it's easy for the girls to have such a good time on the road because they don't take each other too seriously.

Having a lighthearted attitude certainly helps when things go wrong, too.

"I would say the funniest thing that's happened on tour so far is my top came off on stage during a show once," Hamilton says. "I mean, it wasn't funny at the time; I saw my life flash before my eyes! But I just kind of sashayed off stage and was able to get back out before my part in the next song. Looking back now, though, it's really funny."

The ladies of Fifth Harmony may be celebrating their three-year anniversary next month, but four of the five members are still only in their teens, so the group has no plans of slowing down or stepping out of the spotlight. Hamilton says all the girls have individual aspirations of dancing, acting, writing and all kinds of other avenues, but right now performing with Fifth Harmony is exactly where they all want to be.

"This is the right platform for us," Hamilton says. "Being part of [Fifth Harmony] will open doors and let us all explore some of our other individual passions, but we're a family now and we're making plans for our future together. The next thing we'd really like to do is a worldwide tour. We interact with a lot of international fans on social media, so we'd love to get to see them in person and make it real for them."

When asked what fans can hope to see from Fifth Harmony in the future, Hamilton doesn't hesitate. "A Grammy!" she laughs. "I mean, that's what we're working toward, but we hope it'll happen in the next few years. That's the dream!"
