2 arrested in kidnapping case

BENTONVILLE -- Bella Vista police have arrested two men in connection with kidnapping a man and holding him at knifepoint.

Franklin Shane Clines, 25, of Rogers and Austin Jay Burns, 26, of Seligman, Mo., were arrested Wednesday in connection with kidnapping, a Class Y felony, and first-degree battery, a Class A felony, along with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, which are Class D felonies.

Their arrests came after Bella Vista police received a call about a kidnapping at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday from 13 Grisham Drive, said Capt. Tim Cook with the Bella Vista Police Department.

Cook said a man claimed he had been bound with duct tape and held at knifepoint. The man was able to escape and get to the neighboring residence on Grisham Drive, Cook said.

One of the men arrested believed the man had stolen items from him, Cook said.

Clines and Burns were being held Thursday in the Benton County jail with no bail set. The two are expected to have a bail hearing today, Cook said. More information on the arrests will be released after the bail hearings, he said.

The arraignments for Clines and Burns are scheduled for 8 a.m. Aug. 31 before Circuit Judge Robin Green.
