5 state firms on list of largest truckers

Five Arkansas companies are among the 100 largest for-hire carriers in North America, according to Transport Topics.

The trucking and transportation publication's annual list is calculated based on the previous year's revenue. Maverick USA made the biggest move among Arkansas companies, climbing four spots to No. 76 after reporting $316 million in revenue in 2014. Maverick, which is based in North Little Rock, was ranked No. 80 with $315 million in revenue last year.

J.B. Hunt remained No. 3 on the 2015 list with $6.2 billion, which ranked behind UPS ($58.2 billion) and FedEx ($47.1 billion). ArcBest Corp. climbed one spot to No. 12 after reporting $2.6 billion in revenue, while USA Truck remained No. 50 for the second straight year with $602 million.

P.A.M. Transportation Services fell four spots to No. 67 after reporting $411 million in revenue.

Tyson earnings call scheduled for Aug. 3

Tyson Foods Inc. will announce its 2015 third-quarter earnings on Aug. 3.

The Springdale-based company reported $310 million in net income, or 75 cents per share, during the second quarter. Revenue of $9.98 billion was up 10 percent from the same quarter in 2014 but missed analyst expectations of $10.11 billion.

Analysts predict Tyson will report $10.3 billion in revenue and earnings of 93 cents per share for the third quarter.

The company will hold a conference call at 8 a.m. Aug. 3 to discuss its third-quarter results. The call can be accessed at (888) 455-8283. The pass code "Tyson Foods" is required to join the call.

13 stocks decline as index loses 1.40

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, fell 1.40 to 361.61 Tuesday.

Thirteen stocks lost ground and five advanced.

Shares of Communications Sales & Leasing dropped 3.5 percent on average volume.

Murphy Oil declined 2.3 percent in active trading and hit a 52-week low.

Home BancShares reached a 52-week high before closing down less than 1 percent.

ArcBest was up 3.4 percent in heavy volume.

USA Truck climbed 1.5 percent in light trading.

Total volume of the index was 18.8 million shares.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
