Northwest Arkansas Council celebrates 25 years

Uvalde Lindsey became the Northwest Arkansas Council's fourth honorary lifetime member during the group's annual meeting Monday. The event also served as the council's 25th anniversary celebration.

About 135 community leaders attended the event held at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The Northwest Arkansas Council is a private, nonprofit organization collaborating with business and civic leaders to work on regional economic development, community vitality, education and infrastructure.

Lindsey was the council's first executive director, serving from 1990-2005. He joins President Bill Clinton, Sen. John Paul Hammerschmidt and Alice Walton as lifetime members.

Jim Walton took over as presiding co-chairman of the group. Sam's Club CEO Rosalind Brewer led the group in the past year.

Walton takes his third shot at leading the organization, and joked that it better be his last. He said it is important for the council to continue developing its young and diverse membership. Approximately 100 people are members.
