Getting it straight

The lawyers who successfully sued to overturn Arkansas' ban on gay marriage have petitioned the court to be awarded a total of between $441,573 and $828,878 for their time and expenses.

Attorney Jack Wagoner of Little Rock is seeking at least $95,748, with a maximum of $141,880. Co-counsel Cheryl Maples of Searcy is asking for $345,825, with a maximum of $686,998. The figures were incorrectly reported in stories published July 10 and Wednesday about their payment requests.

Maples told the court she worked 1,024.24 hours on the case and then spent 340.45 hours on the appeal, for a total of 1,364.69 hours. She typically bills $250 per hour for such work. The time she spent on the appeal, the total time she worked and her pay scale were incorrect in Wednesday's story.
