Crepes Paulette

Since 2010, Crepes Paulette has prepared their crepes in a quirky, creaky food trailer across from Lawrence Plaza and 21C Museum Hotel at 213 NE A Street.

Husband-wife team Frederic Henry (from Brittany, France) and Paula Jo Chitty Henry (a Bentonville native) have been creating artful and authentic French crepes with traditional and fusion fillings to the culturally burgeoning Bentonville Square for three years.

Crepes Paulette recently showcased their creations at the NWA Food Festival, and people lined up out the door for a taste.

The couple has plans for their first permanent store front in the mixed-use development, Thrive, in the Arts District expansion of downtown Bentonville.

Crepes Paulette offers a wide range of both sweet and savory crepes. Originating in the Brittany region of France, the naturally gluten-free organic buckwheat crepes are thin, hearty and healthy. They are filled with a variety of ingredients -- grilled chicken, fresh spinach, black forest ham, sharp cheddar cheese, peanut sauce, pesto, and more.

The sweet crepe batter spreads to a golden, delicate and super-thin "pancake" that is wrapped around bananas, chocolate ganache, housemade caramel, Nutella, fresh strawberries, nuts, apple butter or cinnamon.

Current hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays. Extended hours on First Fridays are 5-8 p.m.

Updates and specials, including weather-related closures, are available on Crepes Paulette Facebook and Twitter pages.

Double Down

Participants of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) have easier access to healthy, local foods. By visiting the farmers' market manager tent, participants can purchase coupons to use at the market. These coupons are twice the value of what they spend on their card. With the exception of Fayetteville, the markets will also honor the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (FMNP).

The coupons are used to purchase freshly grown or produced goods, as well as plants and seeds. The coupons are only valid at the farmers' market where they were purchased.

The Double Your Dollars program is funded by a grant by the Walmart Foundation to The Northwest Arkansas Farmers' Market Alliance, and matching will continue until all funds are distributed, according to arketsnap.uark.edu.

Get Moving

Seeds That Feed will launch a branch of their Mobile Food Network program Saturday at the Fayetteville Farmers' Market. A retrofitted box truck will be parked on the Fayetteville Square from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. collecting produce donations. People who want to donate can share their market purchases with the Seeds That Feed produce truck. Farmers at the market will also contribute their excess goods at the close of the market.

At 3 p.m., the Mobile Produce Pantry will park at Hillcrest Towers to provide residents with a food demonstration, food sampling, fresh produce and a Cookbox with recipes and instructions for cooking.

Hillcrest Towers is a low-income apartment complex for seniors in the heart of downtown Fayetteville.

Seeds That Feed helps redistribute the bounty of summer-grown, fresh produce to the residents of Washington County who have unmet needs. The mobile food pantry was made possible by a grant provided by the Walmart Foundation last spring.

Whataburger

is coming in droves

The first Whataburger set to open in Northwest Arkansas plans to start serving on Monday, according to a sign posted outside of the restaurant. The Whataburger in Fayetteville, located at 1956 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., broke ground in March.

"We're eager to join the Northwest Arkansas community and serve our customers 24 hours a day, 364 days a year," said Rob Rodriguez, senior vice president of restaurant operations said in a press release. "We've had our eye on this part of the country for some time, and believe the region's significant growth is a natural extension of our service area, which stretches across 10 states from Arizona to Texas to Florida."

Plans for additional locations include Pleasant Crossing in Rogers, Elm Springs Road in Springdale and a second location in Fayetteville at Joyce Boulevard and North College Avenue.

Whataburger is now hiring for the Rogers location, according to a press release.

"We're proud to offer compensation and benefits that are highly competitive in the industry, other perks like flexible scheduling, weekly paychecks and food discounts, and opportunities for leadership and development,. We look forward to building a new team in Northwest Arkansas," said Scott Phillips, director of operations.
