U.S. Amateur qualifier today

GOLF

Austin Eoff of Benton and Brice Howard of Hot Springs lead a field of 55 golfers fighting for two spots at today's 36-hole U.S. Amateur qualifier at Pine Bluff Country Club.

Eoff, who won the Arkansas State Golf Association championship in a playoff in June at the Country Club of Little Rock, won Sunday's ASGA designated stroke play tournament by two strokes over Wes McNulty at Pine Bluff Country Club.

Howard finished tied for seventh in the state amateur before winning the Spirit of America championship last week in Decatur, Ala., in a two-hole, three-way playoff. He finished tied for 32nd in the 156-player field Sunday at the Magnolia Amateur in Hattiesburg, Miss.

Other Arkansas contenders for the two spots include: Bryon Shumate of Barling, Austin Harmon of Benton, Cameron McRae of Little Rock and Beau Glover of North Little Rock who lost in a playoff to Chris Jenkins at last week's Fourth of July Classic at War Memorial Golf Course.

The U.S. Amateur will be played Aug. 17-23 at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill.
