Disaster recovery centers open Tuesday

Three disaster recovery centers will open Tuesday to help residents and business owners affected by severe weather that hit the state in May and June.

The Crawford County center, at the Arkansas Valley Electric Cooperative building at 615 Pointer Trail in Van Buren, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Federal Emergency Management Agency officials announced.

Two additional centers are open at Carter Day Training Center at 200 Lake Nichols Drive in Nashville and at the Pine Bluff Convention Center at 500 E. Eighth Ave. in Pine Bluff.

The Pine Bluff and Nashville centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be closed Sundays.

Residents of areas designated for federal disaster assistance can visit the disaster recovery center. Those counties are Crawford, Garland, Howard, Jefferson, Little River, Miller, Perry, Sebastian and Sevier.

Federal disaster assistance includes money for rental assistance, home repairs, personal property loss and other disaster-related needs not covered by insurance, FEMA officials said.

Those needing assistance should register online at disasterassistance.gov before heading to the center. Residents without internet access can call FEMA at (800) 621-3362 (FEMA) or (TTY) (800) 462-7585 for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, FEMA officials said.

In addition to the recovery center, FEMA officials are offering consultations at home improvement stores in four counties to provide tips and techniques to lessen the impact of disaster-related property damage.

The sessions will be held at three Lowe’s locations: 2906 E. Harding Ave. in Pine Bluff; 2120 Fayetteville Road in Van Buren; and 300 Cornerstone Blvd. in Hot Springs. The sessions are set for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday.

FEMA specialists will also be in Howard County at Bailey Discount Building Supply, 880 E. Collin Raye Drive in De Queen, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon.

The teams are set to be at the four locations until July 24.
