Sex offender gets 26-year sentence

ASH FLAT -- A Sharp County man pleaded guilty to two sexual offenses involving a child, and a circuit judge sentenced him to 26 years in prison, 3rd Judicial Circuit Prosecuting Attorney Henry Boyce said Tuesday.

James Lee Smith, 35, of Cherokee Village pleaded guilty to one count of sexual indecency with a child and one count of second-degree assault Monday. Both are felonies. Circuit Judge Harold Erwin issued the sentence.

Smith had access to a child at his home during a 30-day period during summer 2014, Boyce said.

Smith remained in the custody of the Sharp County sheriff's office.
