Northwest Arkansas under flash-flood watch

A flash-flood watch remains in effect for Northwest Arkansas until Wednesday evening as more showers and thunderstorms move through the area, forecasters said Tuesday.

The storms are passing ahead of a slow-moving cold front, which is expected to bring several rounds of rain, the National Weather Service said. That precipitation combined with recent heavy rainfall could easily create flash-flooding concerns, forecasters said.

The main area to be hit by storms will run roughly north and west of a line from Van Buren to Marshall and Mountain Home, the weather service said, adding that 1 inch to 3 inches of rain will be possible, though some areas could receive more.

Baxter, Boone, Marion, Newton and Searcy counties are under a flash-flood watch through Wednesday evening. Forecasters also warned that the Buffalo National River could rise very quickly if the area receives several rounds of rain.

Farther south and east in Arkansas, precipitation will be lighter and spottier, with rain totals generally expected to come in under less than half an inch.
