Van Buren homes flood after rainfall

A number of homes were flooded Sunday in southwestern Crawford and northwestern Sebastian counties, according to the National Weather Service.

The agency, which issued a flash flood warning for the area until late Sunday night, received numerous reports of severely flooded roadways and water in some residences in Van Buren, located in the southwest corner of Crawford County, and north Fort Smith in Sebastian County.

A dispatcher for Van Buren police said most homes along Drennen, Scott and Vine streets have been flooded.

The city's Industrial Park Road is underwater, the dispatcher said.

Although heavy rain ended Sunday night, excessive runoff will keep roadways flooded for several hours, according to the weather service.

Weather service forecasters said there is an 80 percent chance of heavy rainfall in northwest Arkansas through Wednesday night.
