An effort to improve nation’s mood

Ronald Reagan said “If we improve the nation’s mood, we improve the nation.” How true that is.

The state of our nation is scary, to say the least, but will talking about it in a negative way make it any better? I have been guilty of that, but I have decided to try to have a more positive attitude and to let what I say encourage others instead of depressing [them]. We older people can look back and see our nation has overcome a lot of difficult things, one of them being World War II. Many, many men lost, but after the war was over, the ones who came home had a good attitude to rebuild our nation and people worked together to have a good nation and happy homes

— “positive mood.”

If our nation is going down the drain, it is partly because we are pushing it down by our negative mood. Our young people deserve better. They should be able to have a happy outlook on life, not always feel like something bad is going to happen.

This morning I opened the newspaper and on the front page was the announcement that our leaders have cleared the way for same-sex marriage. What a shame. The leaders that we put in office to direct our country have taken something that God says is so sinful that it will cause people to lose their souls and made it to look like it is wonderful, and I say shame on the Democrat-Gazette for the publicity. It looks like you approve of the sinful act.

So our nation has sunk lower in sin. First abortion, now same-sex marriage. Does it look like Satan is winning? No, let’s not give up yet. Let’s encourage each other with positive words. We still have a great country. Let’s make it better. Remember, “a better world begins with me.” Let’s pray for our nation.

Keep opinion out of news

Your headline Sunday, June 28, “NWA Celebrates Ruling” (about the Supreme Court decision to allow same-sex marriage) is an opinion. You found some individuals celebrating the ruling and took a picture, but that does not mean Northwest Arkansas is celebrating the ruling. I expect the newspaper that I pay money to subscribe to, to report the facts, not make any persons’ opinions a headline.
