Eagle Scout

Sameul W. Post, 18, of Rogers has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop 2144 that meets at Rogers-Bentonville Elks Lodge in Rogers. He is the son of Arthur and Conchita Post.

His Eagle Scout project consisted of constructing a 30-by-40 foot half-court basketball court in Library Park 16 at 1507 W. Pine St. in Rogers, across the street from the Rogers Public Library.

releases novel

Local author Joe DeRouen of Rogers has released Memories of a Ghost, his third novel and first set in Rogers.

Memories of a Ghost tells the story of a young woman's quest to remember her life. And just when she thinks she's put all the pieces together, along comes an entirely different puzzle that will make her doubt herself and her sanity.

DeRouen was born in Carthage, Ill., and currently lives in Rogers with wife Andee, son Fletcher and cats Milo, Lucky and Archer. He is a freelance writer, web designer and substitute teacher and also serves on the Arkansas Arts Academy school board. He has previously published two others novels, Small Things and its sequel, Threads.

Beaver team

places sixth

The Southwest Section American Water Works Association's Top Ops team recently tied for sixth place in North America among a field that included 19 teams during their first national competition on June 10 in Anaheim, Calif. Team members Frank Blowers, Nicole Bridges and Dustin Mayhew all work for Beaver Water District. Blowers of Pea Ridge is a maintenance mechanic II; Bridges of Lowell is a laboratory analyst; and Mayhew of Springdale is a plant operator II. Combined, they bring together more than 30 years of experience in the water field to the Top Ops competition.

Top Ops is the "College Bowl" or "Jeopardy!" of the water industry, where teams of water operators from all American Water Works Association sections compete against each other in a competitive question-and-answer tournament. A moderator poses a broad range of technical questions that involve all aspects of water operations. Math questions are also included.

The Top Ops Challenge is designed to promote excellence and professionalism and provide an opportunity for water professionals to showcase their talents in all aspects of water operations.
