Everyone pitches in for LR Parkview

Little Rock Parkview showed Friday night against Little Rock Hall why it has been the best team in Class 6A this season .

Khalil Garland scored 15 points to help the Patriots leave George Cirks Arena with a 52-40 victory over the Warriors.

Javon Franklin added 12 points and Jaylen Franklin and Braelan Walker each had nine as Parkview (17-2, 7-0 6A-South) made 22 of 37 from the floor.

It was Parkview's third consecutive victory over its crosstown rival since Bobby Portis -- now at the University of Arkansas -- graduated from Hall in 2013.

"This is the biggest rivalry going on in the state, us and Hall," Parkview Coach Al Flanigan said. "Like I was telling Coleman, Bobby Portis isn't coming through the halls again. He ain't coming out of the dressing room."

The Patriots led 27-16 at halftime. Hall pulled to within 37-30 with less than two minutes remaining in the third quarter on Robert Verges' jumper. But Parkview ended the quarter with baskets from Jaylen Franklin and Javon Franklin to take a 41-30 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Jaylen Franklin's layup gave Parkview its largest lead, 50-32, with just over three minutes left.

"We turned the tempo up a little bit," Flanigan said. "We got our hands on rebounds and loose balls. We tried to run."

Dayton Artis led Hall (14-7, 5-2 6A-South) with 11 points. Verges added 10 points.

"We just don't have a person who will go out and get us 20 points," Hall Coach Jon Coleman said. "Tonight I thought we could have gotten a little more help. They had us rushing some shots."

Coleman said the Warriors, whose previous conference loss was at El Dorado, don't have time to dwell on Friday's loss to the Patriots.

"When you play Parkview, if you win, you don't want to get too high for that next game because it can cost you a game," Coleman said. "If you lose, you don't want to get too low. We lost, but we have to stay on an even keel.

"We're two games behind Parkview. This game is over. We have Benton next. Our concentration is solely on Benton."
