Willcutt finishes with a flurry

Garrett Willcutt scored 14 of his game-high 24 points in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter to lift Dover over Pulaski Robinson 58-50 Thursday night in a 4A-4 Conference game in Little Rock.

Willcutt made 9 of 11 free throws during Dover's 18-9 run to end the game.

"We have a great point guard in Garrett Willcutt," Dover Coach Jason George said. "That allowed us to get pressure and made them come out and get us. We are kind of made for that.

"We were a lot smarter and stronger with the ball down the stretch."

Pulaski Robinson pulled as close as 42-41 with 4:34 to play behind Phillip Brown, who finished with 22 points, but Willcutt's free throws and a three-point play by Luke Price gave Dover (16-5, 5-5) a 51-43 lead with two minutes remaining. Brown, Derrick Coleman and Gavin Johnson had the only field goals for Pulaski Robinson after that.

Pulaski Robinson (7-13, 3-7) led 11-10 in the first quarter behind the three-point shooting of TJ Hammonds, who finished with 13 points, and a late basket by Brown. Austin Turner hit a three-pointer early in the second quarter that keyed a 7-0 run for Dover, and Willcutt hit a short jumper just before time ran out to make it a 25-16 at halftime.

An aggressive man-to-man defense, a three-pointer by Hammonds and a three-point play by Brown allowed Pulaski Robinson to cut Dover's lead to 35-32 by the end of three quarters. Brown made another three-point play early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 37-37, but Willcutt hit two free throws to keep Dover in front and continued with a pressing offense that sent him to the line five more times.
