Fayetteville library sets new policy for study rooms

FAYETTEVILLE -- Beginning Sunday, people will have to check out or reserve study rooms at the Fayetteville Public Library.

People now have the option of reserving the library's two largest study rooms in advance: the Leverenz Room, which accommodates 10 people; and the large study room, which accommodates six. But, generally, the rooms -- and four others on the library's top floor -- were filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Library staff said it's not uncommon to find people waiting for the library to open, so they can rush to one of the rooms.

"The new check-out procedures will help us emphasize fairness, safety and flexibility for all patrons," said Willow Fitzgibbon, manager of reference services, in a Tuesday news release.

According to the new policies, the two largest study rooms must be reserved at least 24 hours and no more than four weeks in advance. Either of the rooms can be reserved by calling 479-856-7250.

The other four rooms must be checked out using a library card at the library's reference desk.

All of the rooms may be checked out for up to six hours at a time and cannot be left unattended for more than 20 minutes. One check-out per person per day is allowed. Patrons must be at least 12 years old to check out or reserve a room.
