Arkansas Higher Education Department to interview candidates

LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Department of Higher Education has scheduled interviews with the three remaining candidates for the director's position.

The finalists will be interviewed Thursday at the Department of Higher Education's headquarters in Little Rock. They were chosen Wednesday by the agency's Director Search Committee.

The finalists are Bernadette Hinkle, assistant vice president for finance and business services at the West Chester University of Pennsylvania; Brett Powell, vice president for administrative services at Ouachita Baptist University; and David Wright, chief of the policy, planning and research officer at the Tennessee Higher Education Commission.

Current Director Shane Broadway plans to leave to become vice president of governmental relations for the Arkansas State University System. Broadway has led the department since February 2011.

The agency began advertising for the position in December.
