Central's free throws corral victory

The Little Rock Central went without a field goal in the fourth quarter, but were able to hold off West Memphis for a 59-48 victory.

The Lady Tigers won on the strength of 30 of 42 shooting from the free-throw line and a strong defensive run at the end of the third quarter as West Memphis went five straight offensive possessions with a turnover. Central forced 17 West Memphis turnovers.

West Memphis (11-6, 2-3 7A/6A-East) led 37-32 with 4:45 left in the third quarter, but the Lady Tigers scored the last 16 points of the quarter to gain control.

West Memphis outscored Central 8-0 from the field in the final quarter, but the Lady Tigers hit 11 of 14 from the free-throw line in the quarter. In West Memphis' past two games against Class 7A competition, they have allowed 83 free throws.

Amber Scott and Kamry Orr paced the Lady Tiger attack with 12 points each while teammate Sydni Williams scored 7. Senior Alexis Hamlet led the Lady Devils in scoring with 14 points while junior point guard Sable Greer added 11.

The Lady Tigers outrebounded West Memphis 12-6 in the second half.
