Rogers Police Chief James Allen died Thursday morning following a long struggle with cancer, according to a news release from the Rogers Police Department.

Allen served as Bentonville police chief for 22 years before taking the helm at Rogers in 2011. He also served with the Pulaski County sheriff's office and as an Alcoholic Beverage Control officer.

"Northwest Arkansas, and the state as a whole, lost a tremendous law enforcement leader who touched the lives and careers of many police officers over a distinguished and honorable careers," Rogers Capt. Hayes Minor said in the news release. "He will be missed immensely."
