U.S. 64 bridge inspection to shut Fort Smith-Van Buren lanes

A routine bridge inspection will require lane closures on U.S. 64/Midland Avenue between Fort Smith and Van Buren, state highway officials said Friday.

Crews inspecting the Midland Avenue bridge over the Arkansas River between Fort Smith and Van Buren will need to close the eastbound and westbound outside lanes on the bridge, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said in a statement.

The eastbound closure will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and the westbound closure during the same hours Wednesday, weather permitting, the department said. If the eastbound work finishes quickly, the westbound closure could begin Tuesday afternoon, highway officials added.

Barrels and warning signs will be used to control traffic.
