— Former Charleston quarterback Ty Storey has been named MaxPreps’ 2014 Small Schools Player of the Year.

Storey, who is already enrolled at Arkansas, capped his high school career last month with a dominant performance in the Tigers’ 33-26 win over Smackover in the Class 3A state championship game.

Accounting for all but 17 yards of Charleston’s offense, the four-star recruit threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 153 yards and two touchdowns.

On the Tigers’ final drive of the game, he accounted for all 55 yards, including nine carries for 51 yards and the game-winning four-yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds left.

The performance came at the end of one of the most illustrious careers in Arkansas high school football history. It was Charleston’s second straight state title and 29th consecutive win.

Storey’s 12,860 career passing yards rank third in state history, while his 154 touchdown passes rank second.

He was also named the Gatorade Arkansas Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014.

Storey went through some bowl practices with the Razorbacks and will also go through spring drills.
