— Florida announced Randy Shannon as an assistant head coach Monday, confirming earlier reports he would leave a similar position at Arkansas.

Shannon will be the Gators' co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. He has spent the last two seasons coaching linebackers for the Razorbacks and was promoted to associate head coach last year.

Arkansas paid Shannon $400,000 annually. According to a contract signed last February, Shannon won't owe the Razorbacks a buyout because his new title includes defensive coordinator.

He otherwise would have stood to owe Arkansas $50,000.

Shannon is from Florida and spent 20 seasons coaching college and professional teams in Miami. He was head coach at his alma mater Miami from 2007-10.

Shannon was linebackers coach at TCU in 2012 before joining the Arkansas staff. He is generally considered one of the top assistant coaches in college football, having won the 2001 Broyles Award as a defensive coordinator at Miami.
