Hill leads Little Rock Hall girls to title

Shakyla Hill scored 28 points to lead Little Rock Hall to the undisputed 6A-South Conference championship with a 58-48 victory at Little Rock Parkview on Friday night.

Hill scored 17 first-half points that included four layups and a three-pointer in a span of 50 seconds and keyed a 22-10 first quarter for the Lady Warriors (21-7, 13-1).

“Shakyla is someone I admire as an individual,” Little Rock Hall Coach Selita Farr said. “She’s a go-getter. When I need a bucket, she will go get one and when I need a rebound, she will bring it back.”

The early Little Rock Hall lead grew to as much as 15 points, 29-14, early in the second period on a Hill steal and layup, but the Lady Patriots answered with a Jayln Davis three-pointer and free throws from Ka’Noesha Wilson and Morgan Brady to make it 29-21. Vivian Floyd came off the Parkview bench for a 10-foot jumper with 27 seconds to go before halftime to cut the Little Rock Hall lead to six points.

Parkview (12-9, 9-5) got as close as three points twice in the third quarter on baskets from Wilson and Brady, but Hill connected on a three-point play, then made two quick steals and two layups to up Little Rock Hall’s lead to 10, 41-31.

“It was a team effort, but it wasn’t pretty,” Farr said. “It’s always real tough to play here.”

Parkview got as close as eight points on three-pointers from Brady and Yazmin Batch, but Terralynn Dominick sank 5 of 6 free throws to keep the Lady Warriors on top by 10 points in the final three minutes.

“It’s always hard to get over the hump when we are playing a rivalry game, whether it’s Hall or any other Little Rock school,” Parkview Coach Lahoma Howard said. “We just could get over the hump, but it’s behind us now and we can get ready for the state tournament.”

Brady led Parkview with 13 points, while Davis added 12 and Wilson scored 11. Dominick was the second leading scorer for Little Rock Hall with 17 points, 12 of which came in the second half.
