Sunday’s surface was slow and wet and not a single winner went wire to wire. Three of the six sprint winners raced third at the first call and the other three rallied from fifth or much farther back, and two of the last three runner-up finishers rallied from 10th and ninth respectively. The three route winners were all positioned no closer than fifth at the first call (½ mile) and two of the three second-place finishers rallied from far back. Overall, I believe finishers had an advantage.
