Officers were called to the Albert Pike Residence Hotel at 701 Scott St. about 4:40 p.m. Tuesday and met Kimberly Herring, 38. Herring told police that a man entered her apartment and threatened her harm if she didn't give him her Direct Express card.

Herring threw the card toward the man, but he told her to pick up the card and hand it to him, police reported. Herring refused, and the man choked her -- causing her to lose consciousness -- before taking the card and leaving the apartment, police reported.

She described her assailant as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds.

Vehicle break-ins result in charges

A Jacksonville teenager was arrested early Wednesday morning and charged with seven counts of breaking and entering, after he admitted to breaking into several vehicles in the area.

Ryan Dale Frederick, 18, of 210 N. Elm St. in Jacksonville, was arrested at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday, according to a police report.

A witness observed Frederick rummaging through the center console and glove box of her uncle's truck in the 400 block of Stevenson Street and told her uncle, police reported. The uncle chased Frederick away.

Frederick was found by police about four blocks away and admitted going through seven vehicles in the area, police said. The arresting officer also reported a "strong odor of intoxicants" coming from Frederick's breath.

Frederick, who also was charged with two counts of theft of property and a count of minor in possession of intoxicants, was being held in the Pulaski County jail Wednesday evening in lieu of $9,750 bond.
