Fayetteville subdivision plan gets OK

FAYETTEVILLE -- Planning commissioners in Fayetteville on Monday unanimously approved a residential subdivision north of Mission Boulevard, despite concerns from nearby homeowners.

A company called Whistler Woods LLC plans to build 19 single-family houses on about 7 acres between Winwood Drive and Lisa Lane. The heavily wooded land is bordered on three sides by houses built in the 1970s and 1980s.

Fairview Memorial Cemetery is to the west. The Mission Boulevard Baptist Church, Fayetteville Christian School and Westwood Gardens are to the east. The property is across the street from a strip mall where Eureka Pizza is located and behind several houses that front Mission Boulevard.

According to Washington County property records, Whistler Woods bought the land from Karl and Kimberley Fuller for $345,000 in November. The company is registered to Phil Crabtree, who owns Springdale-based Penny Lane Construction with Clay Morton. The developers have built several houses called the Midtown Bungalows along Winwood Drive over the past two years.

"We hope the commission's pleased with this plan, and we feel that the city can be proud of the design," Morton told planning commissioners Monday.

Adjoining property owners said they were concerned about the subdivision's effect on their properties. Several mentioned traffic on Mission Boulevard, the potential for increased flooding and tree preservation in particular.
