Personal Space

Kathleen Trotter

Where I live: I live east of Lowell on Beaver Lake. I've lived here since 2001 and in Northwest Arkansas for 20 years. I lived in Fayetteville, and I really wanted to be on the lake. I moved out to Beaver Shores, which is east of Rogers, but my office was in Fayetteville and I had two daughters and grandchildren in Fayetteville. It was just too far away. I couldn't find anything, and we went looking on the boat. I found the for-sale sign on the shore. It's a contemporary style. It's a fishing cabin that's been remodeled.

Occupation: I'm a small-business owner and entrepreneur. I'm an organizational development consultant. I founded a firm 30 years ago that I nurtured, branded and sold to an associate whom I work for quite a bit. Then, I formed another company called Krysalis that focuses on developing people skills. I work with a lot of nonprofits, but I also work with businesses.

Favorite space: The open space on the main floor.

Why? It is the living room, dining room and kitchen area. It's what attracted me to the house in the first place. I actually prefer to be outdoors, but I need to live indoors. This room with these windows that are almost a full three stories give me complete access to the outdoors. I also decorate with a lot of personal mementos. What I really like about the room is that it nurtures the natural and the personal.

If I could do one thing to improve the space, I would: Paint and replace the banister.
