'3 Amigos' drug probe in Camden charges 8

Eight people in the Camden area have been charged in a drug-trafficking operation that federal officials called Operation Three Amigos.

A news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge of the Western District of Arkansas said federal, state and local law enforcement officers made five arrests earlier this month as part of that operation. Three others arrested earlier are awaiting trial in federal court in El Dorado on methamphetamine and crack cocaine distribution charges.

Arrested Feb. 3 on federal distribution of crack charges, according to the news release, were Sheldon Mitchell, 34, three counts; Kim Williams, 39, three counts; Willie Williams, 41, three counts; and Jeffrey Haywood, 51, two counts, all of Camden.

Another Camden man, Calvin Williams, 42, was arrested Feb. 3 on state drug charges, according to the release.

The investigation has resulted in the seizure of two firearms, several rounds of ammunition, four vehicles and more than $10,000 cash from the members of the organization, the release stated.

Arrested earlier in the operation were Carlos Morgan, 32, of Camden, scheduled to go on trial in federal court March 4 on four counts of distribution of crack; Senica Howard, 36, of El Dorado, scheduled for trial March 2 on two counts of distribution of methamphetamine; and Mario Thomas, 36, no hometown listed, scheduled for trial April 8 on two counts of distribution of crack.

Agents with the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the FBI task force began their investigation into drug trafficking in Ouachita County in 2011. Their activities included controlled purchases of methamphetamine and crack cocaine, surveillance and monitoring, the release stated.
