NWA schools ponder reopening after winter storm

Northwest Arkansas’ largest school districts are weighing whether to reopen campuses Wednesday.

All campuses in the Fayetteville School District will open Wednesday with limited bus service unless additional winter weather occurs overnight, spokesman Alan Wilbourn said. If more snow or sleet falls, a decision about having classes will be made by 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Springdale schools likely will reopen Wednesday, though that district’s plans are subject to change should more snow fall overnight, Springdale spokesman Rick Schaeffer said. District officials anticipate buses will be able to travel on about 90 percent of the district’s routes.

If parents are concerned about the safety of taking their children to school, they should contact their child’s school, Schaeffer said.

Decisions about Bentonville and Rogers schools will be made early Wednesday morning, officials with both districts said.
