Child dies 2 days after motorbike hit

A child died Jan. 31 from injuries suffered in a crash two days earlier in Malvern, Arkansas State Police reported.

State police said that a minor was sitting on a motorcycle that was being pushed east on Highland Avenue by Michael Jordan, 29, of Malvern, when it was struck by a 2008 Chevrolet about 8:35 p.m. Jan. 29.

The child, who was not named in the report, was thrown from the motorcycle and was transported to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock and died Jan. 31, state police said.

A new law requires state police to redact the names and addresses of minors from crash reports made public. However, Atkinson Funeral Home in Malvern confirmed the minor was John Hern, 14, of Malvern.

Jordan was injured in the crash, state police said. The driver of the Chevrolet, Brian Hartman, 20, of Malvern, was not injured.

Conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the crash, state police said.
