Acrobats at dinner

Centers for Youth and Families fundraiser exceeds its goal by $25,000

Blue lighting, centerpieces of white hydrangeas and white branches on glittery blue tablecloths along with the cool sounds of Rodney Block and the Real Music Lovers created the perfect atmosphere for Evolve: Winter Nights on Jan. 24 at the Little Rock Marriott.

The evening was a fundraiser for Centers for Youth and Families. It started with a patron party in the Arkansas Room, where guests enjoyed finger foods from Trios and the event's signature cocktail, French 75, made with champagne, gin and lemon.

While guests enjoyed a buffet dinner in the wintery ballroom, they watched acrobats from ReCreation Studios perform on rings suspended from the ceiling. Later on during the program, dancers from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Dance Department performed.

This year is the 130th anniversary of the Centers for Youth and Families, which began as the Elizabeth Mitchell Children's Home. This year's fundraiser is the largest yet, said Chris Shenep, with about 450 guests in attendance. The event brought in $173,000 for the nonprofit, $38,000 over their goal.

Serving as the event chairman was Nick Copas, with Sara Massana as co-chairman.
