Ryan spouts 1-liners about Cowboys QB

Buffalo Bill Coach Rex Ryan says Dallas Cowboys quarterback Kellen Moore (shown) is not to be overlooked, even though he stands only 6-feet tall, is left handed and making his first career start.

Kellen Moore will get his first NFL start Sunday as the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback.

Buffalo Bills Coach Rex Ryan has seen what the lefty is capable of firsthand, but that doesn't stop him from thinking he's a scrawny man.

"Well, first thing that jumps out at you, he's a little bitty dude," Ryan told reporters Wednesday. "You're expecting these big, 6-5 dudes and here's a guy that's 6-foot. Then he's throwing with the wrong hand."

At 6-0, Moore is diminutive compared to his 2015 predecessors, 6-2 (Tony Romo) and 6-4 (Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel).

Ryan said Moore is better than his near-freakishly small proportions would suggest.

"But he's accurate," Ryan said. "He's poised. And obviously the numbers he put up in college speak to that as well. He's a smart guy. That's kind of what jumps out at you."

Loyalty's royalty

The relationship between San Francisco Giants Manager Bruce Bochy and Tim Flannery, his long-time friend, teammate and third-base coach, goes way back.

In fact, MLB Productions released a documentary earlier this year titled The Odd Couple: Botch and Flannery, which focused on that friendship.

It's a special bond that dates back to their playing days with the San Diego Padres in 1983. In an almost unprecedented show of loyalty the two remained side-by-side on and off the field for 31 years, right up until Flannery's retirement from coaching in November of 2014.

That loyalty didn't go unappreciated by either man, and the level of success they were able to attain with the Giants made the journey all the more satisfying.

Together, Bochy and Flannery helped bring three World Series trophies to San Francisco, winning the championship in 2010, 2012 and 2014. Both men received rings for their roles in guiding that team, which is the usual protocol.

As a nod to his loyalty and a token of appreciation for helping mold his championship teams, Bochy actually went out and bought Flannery his very own Commissioner's trophy, which is awarded to the World Series champions every season.

According to CBS Sports' David Brown, manufacturing an exact replica costs somewhere between $15,000 and $18,000.

Evans off game

Friday's NBA game between New Orleans and Miami was going down to the wire in regulation. The game was tied 78-78 with 14.8 seconds left to play, and New Orleans had the ball and a chance to win it.

There was only one little problem: Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans forgot the play Coach Alvin Gentry had told him to run 10 seconds earlier during the timeout.

As ESPN commentator Kara Lawson explained, Evans brought the ball to the wrong side of the court. The Pelicans were setting up a double screen for Eric Gordon on the left side, so Evans should have been on the right. Instead, he dribbled the ball right into Gordon's path.

Somehow, this wasn't Evans' only laughable mental mistake in crunch time. Evans got the play right after another timeout, but Anthony Davis missed the potential game-winner, so the game went to overtime.

A few minutes into overtime Evans forgot whether he was supposed to set a screen late in a possession leading to a Pelicans miss that the Heat rebounded on their way to a 94-88 victory.
