Montgomery flourishes in spotlight

Braydon Montgomery got into tennis just by chance, but once he got a taste of it, he never quit.

Montgomery, a Van Buren senior, said he was introduced to tennis when he tagged along with some cousins to a tennis court in Van Buren as a youngster.

Montgomery was an all-state singles player and advanced to the finals of the Class 7A state tournament last fall. He defeated Will McCombs of Fayetteville in the second round, then defeated Michael Zheng of Rogers in the semifinals before losing to Parker Stearns of Little Rock Catholic in the finals, 6-2, 6-0.

He is this year’s All-NWADG Boys Singles Player of the Year.

He also competed in the state overall tournament, where he defeated Igor Jacociunas of Siloam Springs 6-1, 6-0 before losing to Hunter Harrison of Pulaski Academy in the semifinals.

Montgomery recently signed a letter of intent to play tennis at Ouachita Baptist.
