Long’s season rewarding once again

Luke Long finished his high school golf career right where he began, at the top.

Long, a senior at Fayetteville, broke out on state golf scene as a sophomore with a Class 7A medalist finish and an overall state championship as a sophomore. Over the rest of his Purple’Dogs’ career, Long didn’t slow down, and capped it all off with a third consecutive team title for Fayetteville at the Class 7A tournament in October. His efforts have earned him All-NWADG Boys Golfer of the Year honors.

“It was very rewarding,” Long said. “To finish my senior year with another championship, that was the goal.”

Long averaged a team-best 36.5 score per nine-hole round, and 73.0 per 18-hole round as a senior, earning All-State and all-conference honors. The Fayetteville senior then capped off another stellar season with more individual honors, winning medalist for the second time in three seasons at the Class 7A tournament.

“I’m happy with my career I’ve had here at Fayetteville,” Long said. “To go out and help our team win championships like we did, I can look back and be proud of what was accomplished.”
