Police confirm death at Springdale gun range was suicide

SPRINGDALE -- A 25-year-old woman killed herself at a gun range Tuesday afternoon, police said.

A 911 call came in at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday at 511 Old Wire Road, said Lt. Derek Wright, Springdale Police Department spokesman. Capt. Frank Gamble confirmed the incident happened at Sturm's Indoor Gun Range.

The woman rented a lane and a gun, Gamble said. She fatally shot herself with the gun she rented, he said.

Steve Sturm, manager at the gun range, said he didn't know the woman's name and he didn't know what happened. A license isn't needed to shoot at the range, he said.

The range was closed for the remainder of Tuesday, then opened Friday, Sturm said. It's normally closed Wednesday and Thursday.
