LITTLE ROCK -- Leonard Snell said he'd trade in his six rushing touchdowns if it meant his Nashville team would still win the Class 4A state championship.

He didn't have to.

Snell was next to unstoppable for the Scrappers on Saturday as Nashville completed a perfect season with a 39-20 win over Prairie Grove in War Memorial Stadium.

"Six touchdowns, I mean that's a blessing to have, but I'd have been happy to score zero touchdowns as long as we got the win," said Snell, who was named the game's Most Valuable Player. "My linemen, they were just opening up big holes and I just followed them. They got me into the secondary and I was able to use my speed to get past them, and I guess I was successful.

Nashville (15-0) dominated after trailing 20-19 at halftime. The Scrappers quickly turned the momentum in the second half when Shaundell Scott intercepted a tipped Prairie Grove pass, and Snell ripped off gains and 26 and 7 yards, the last for a touchdown for a 25-20 lead, and the Scrappers never trailed again.

Snell added another touchdown on Nashville's next possession, but it came with a little controversy as he lost the ball as he hurdled into the end zone on a 14-yard run. Officials awarded Snell the touchdown, although replays showed Snell lost the ball while he was still in the air.

"That's a touchy subject," Prairie Grove coach Danny Abshier said after the game. "When the replay pops up there like that and it looks like it came out, but hey, there's no replay in this game. It looked like they missed it, but I'm sure they'd say, hey boys, we missed it. And they did that one."

Even with the phantom touchdown, the Tigers (13-2) had chances to get back in the game. Prairie Grove benefited from a strange play when it stripped the ball from Snell on a fourth-down play at the Nashville 41. But after reaching the Scrappers' 26, the Tigers went backward with a 10-yard penalty and a 9-yard sack and came away with no points.

Early in the fourth quarter, the Tigers drove from their own 28 to inside the Nashville 5-yard line, but again came away with no points on four tries.

"We had our chances in the second half," Abshier said. "We could have done some things, but we just didn't get it done."

Nashville's explosive offense accounted for 422 total yards, and early on the Scrappers seized momentum as Snell capped Nashville's opening possession with a 5-yard run and a 7-0 lead with 11 minutes, 3 seconds left in the first quarter.

Prairie Grove, making its first state championship game appearance, didn't flinch and drove 61 yards as Blake Faulk gained 20 yards, and Sam Dodd hit Isaac Disney for 29 yards before finding tight end Dylan Soehner for a 4-yard touchdown pass. Dodd ran in the two-point conversion and an 8-7 lead.

Nashville again put together a short touchdown drive as Snell had gains of 13, 16 and the final 35 yards to give his team back the lead at 13-8. Then, after a Prairie Grove fumble, the Scrappers got on the board again on Snell's third rushing touchdown of the half and a 19-8 lead.

The Tigers responded, driving 73 yards in 13 plays and twice converted big fourth down plays, the last a 20-yard run by Faulk, who finished with 22 carries for 135 yards. Faulk capped the drive with a short touchdown run that trimmed Nashville's lead to 19-14.

After a rare defensive stop, Prairie Grove took the lead by driving 79 yards in 12 plays. Faulk had a 29-yard run in the drive and finished the march with a 5-yard touchdown run as the Tigers took a 20-19 lead at halftime.

The second half was a different story as Nashville's defense held Prairie Grove to 89 yards of offense and zero points.

"We're the only team in the state to get 15 victories this year," Nashville coach Mike Volarvich said. "It's something special. It's a great victory."
