Daniel Reed Roseberry, 46, was charged in Scott County on Thursday afternoon. He was scheduled at a probable-cause hearing to appear in circuit court for arraignment on Jan. 5.

Roseberry is accused of killing Lavonda Legitt, 53, on Tuesday night at the apartment they shared at 133 S. Main St.

Waldron police officers and Arkansas State Police investigators found that Legitt had been stabbed in the abdomen and the neck.

Police said Roseberry admitted to killing Legitt, with whom he had been living for 13 years.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, Roseberry called 911 about 7:45 p.m. and told the dispatcher, "I just killed my girlfriend."

He was arrested just outside his apartment, where the dispatcher told him to wait for police, and he cooperated with investigators. When an officer noticed blood on Roseberry's shoes, Roseberry volunteered to show that he also had blood on his stomach under his shirt, the affidavit said.

Roseberry told investigators, according to the affidavit, that he and Legitt had been arguing all that day because of contact he had with a woman on Facebook on Monday.

At one point, Legitt threw her phone at the kitchen counter and broke it, the affidavit said Roseberry told police. As she picked up a piece of the phone that landed near the front door of the apartment, Roseberry got up from where he was sitting, grabbed Legitt by the hair and stabbed her in the abdomen with a knife he was sharpening, the affidavit said.

He pulled the knife upward before pulling it out, then stabbed her in the left side of the neck, the affidavit said. She dropped to the floor in a sitting position, her back against a wall.

Roseberry said he put on a shirt before calling the police, the affidavit said.
