WASHINGTON COUNTY

Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Fellowship, 901 W. Cleveland St., will be host to ministerial candidate Sarah Prickett who will present a sermon about the power of storytelling at 11 a.m. Sunday. Story is a powerful force in our lives, for good or ill. Stories shape us, whether they are the stories of our own lives or the stories we are told. Venture into the magical world of "once upon a time" and discover a source of wisdom and power for your own life.

Prickett is director of Lifespan Faith Development at Northwoods Unitarian Universalist Church in The Woodlands, Texas, and a ministerial fellow at the Church of the Larger Fellowship, where she is works with Family Ministries. The Church of the Larger Fellowship is a Unitarian Universalist congregation without walls, comprised of thousands of people from all over the world.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, 225 N. East Ave., offers ongoing classes of spiritual formation for adults this fall. Classes include an introduction to compassion; an introduction to the Ennegram personality typing system; "How Shall We Live Today?"; and "The Healing Miracles of Jesus." Compassion Fayetteville, presents a film, Kindness Is Contagious by David Gaz, at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the Malco Razorback Cinema in Fayetteville. Catherine Ryan Hyde, author of the novel (and, thus, the movie) Pay It Forward, narrates the documentary featuring stories of kindness and generosity. Tickets are $10 each, with $1 per ticket going to Compassion Fayetteville and $1 to Charter for Compassion International. Tickets can be reserved at gathr.us/screening/12618.

Compassion Fayetteville presents An Evening for Nepal, a benefit dinner, at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville. Money raised will be used to rebuild devastated monasteries. Tickets are $20 for adults, $35 per couple, $12 for students and youth, and free for children younger than 6.

BENTON COUNTY

First Christian Church of Rogers (Disciples of Christ), 905 S. 13th, presents "Discover the Purpose of your Marriage," from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 12. Cost is $50, lunch included.

Amy Crumpton, a licensed counselor, certified coach and writer, is the featured speaker. She created Purpose Dweller, an online program that helps clients discover who they are and why they are here.

Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., is an interdenominational congregation. Worship begins at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday, with adult Sunday school from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Children's Teaching Time for children ages 4 to 12 is offered during the worship service, and a staffed nursery is available. A prayer fellowship meets at 9:15 a.m. every Wednesday. The Rev. Eric Sloter is pastor.

The church offers free blood pressure checks from 9 a.m. to noon each Wednesday in the nurse's office and at 9 a.m. the last Sunday of the month in the church parlor.

The Hope Happens Here cancer support group meets at 3:30 p.m. each Thursday in the parlor. The church also sponsors a diabetes support group, a prostate cancer support group and a caregivers support group.

Village Bible Evangelical Free Church in Bella Vista, 210 Town Center S.E., offers Sunday school classes for all ages at 9 a.m. each Sunday, followed by worship at 10 a.m. Infant and toddler nurseries and Children's Church also are offered. The Rev. Mark Voll is the pastor.

Church members meet for a dinner at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday, followed at 6:20 p.m. by singing, devotionals and prayers for adults, as well as children's programs. Nursery services are available.

A men's Bible study on Jeremiah meets at 7 p.m. each Tuesday. A Bible study of Jeremiah for both men and women meets at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday.

The church operates the Oasis Food Pantry from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday. The KniTTogether ministry and White Cross Women's Mission ministry meet at 7 p.m. each Tuesday, working to projects for needy adults and children in Northwest Arkansas, as well as in the Congo area of Africa.

Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Bella Vista, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd., offers a worship service with communion at 10:30 a.m. each Sunday. Church school begins at 9 a.m. Church members serve a meal after the service Sunday and every third Sunday of the month.

Bible studies for adults are offered at 3 p.m. every Wednesday and at 10 a.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. A game day is held at 1 p.m. the first and third Thursday of each month.

Adante Music Club presents "Paul Haley and the Skunk Hollow Band" Country, gospel and bluegrass music, at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Choir practice will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The Christian Singles group meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday and the fourth Tuesday of each month. The Disciples Women Fellowship meets for brunch at 10 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month. The Disciple Men Fellowship meets for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on the third Saturday of the month.

Unitarian Universalists of Benton County, 1110 S.E. Evergreen St., offers a service at 11 a.m. every Sunday. Sunday school is available for children through age 15, using Spirit Play, an Unitarian Universalist adaptation of Godly Play by Jerome Berryman (Augsburg Books, 1995).

The fellowship will gather Sunday at 11 a.m. at Kingsdale Pavilion in Bella Vista for a potluck and pool party.

Bella Vista Lutheran Church, 1990 Forest Hills Blvd., offers two services most Sundays -- a 8:30 a.m. traditional service and a 10:45 a.m. informal service. If the month includes a fifth Sunday, as this month does, a single service begins at 9:30 a.m. A single service is planned for Sunday. There will be no Bible Study or Sunday School on Sunday.

The church also offers a communion service for homebound at 9:30 a.m. the first Tuesday of each month, with lunch served after the service.

The Shepherd's Food Pantry is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Friday. Donations are needed of egg noodles, sugar-free gelatin, box cereals, diapers sizes 3-5 and bar soap.

Members of the church will volunteer at Helping Hands on Sept. 5.

The quilters meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Friendly Stitchers meet at 9 a.m. Thursday.

First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, 20 Boyce Drive, offers traditional worship services at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. each Sunday, with a contemporary service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday school classes for all ages begin at 9 a.m., and a nursery is available. A prayer meeting is offered at 5 p.m. each Wednesday in the chapel. The Rev. Jaimie Alexander is the pastor.

United Methodist Women craft items from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Thursday in the quilt room. Items will be offered for sale a the annual bazaar.

A Journey Through Grief support group meets from 5 to 6:30 p.m. each Monday, through Oct. 26, in the chapel. A single men's fellowship group focused on loss meets at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and the third Tuesday of each month in Becker Hall.

A caregivers support group meets at 9 a.m. Monday and the second and fourth Monday of each month. The church sponsors Alcoholic Anonymous meetings every Monday and Saturday.

Bella Vista Christian Church, 103 Riordan Road, a nondenominational congregation, offers worship services at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. each Sunday. KidTown for children through fifth-grade is offered during both services.

The church offers registration sessions for Life Groups, in-home Bible studies, on Sunday. Groups resume the week of Sept. 13.

A new potluck Bible study and fellowship led by the pastor. The program meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month, in the Atrium. The Rev. Joe Williams, pastor, leads the study.

The Engage Student Ministries, for sixth- through 12th-graders, holds a worship night at 5 p.m. Sept. 2 and each Wednesday at the church.

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) meets from 9 am. to 11 a.m. the first, second and third Friday of each month, resuming Sept. 4.

The United Lutheran Church of Bella Vista (ELCA), 100 Cooper Road, offers United in Prayer at 3 p.m. each Monday. The parish nurse works a blood-pressure clinic from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 to 11 a.m. Sept. 6.

The Phoebes meet at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, and Bread for the World meets at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Stonecroft Ministries work to share the Gospel with women worldwide, through locally planned outreach programs, small group Bible study, prayer walks and Stonecroft speakers sharing their stories of transformation.

Currently, Stonecroft has several groups in Northwest Arkansas:

• Bella Vista Christian Women's Connection meets for brunch from 9 to 10:30 a.m. the second Tuesday of each month at 75 E. Lancashire Blvd. Brunch is $10. Information: 268-4459.
